Moncton’s Centennial Park
Centennial Park is by far the most well-known park and playground in the City of Moncton! This is a fantastic space, often used for large events, and a year-round destination for walking, biking, cross-country skiing, and swimming.
Centennial Park actually features two playgrounds (one natural, one with inclusive, accessible equipment updated in 2018) and a splash park, as well as trails, green space, tennis courts, a swimming pool (newly constructed in summer 2019), and lots of washrooms and parking!
The main entrance leads you to the large, traditional playground, which includes a new inclusive structure. The ground is rubberized, the ramps are wide, and there are lots of neat sensory options.
There is a small play structure perfect for little climbers, with a double slide.
There are several swings sets, with three infant swings, one accessible swing, and one ‘child and me’ swing when we visited.
This is a popular park that is often packed during the summer, but if you have preschoolers and can come visit during the day when school is in session, you may just have the whole place to yourself!
At the Rotary entrance, you’ll find the dog park, the entrance to Camp Centennial, and the natural playground, built with community volunteer help in 2015. This will also be the entrance to the new pool area.
Centennial Park is a great adventure for the transportation-loving kid (or adult!) in your life, too. The splash park was built with funding raised by the annual Atlantic Nationals event, with miniature antique cars surrounding the splash pad. At the park entrance there is a plane and a train.
Throughout Centennial Park you’ll find lots of picnic tables and benches, as well as shelters and even scattered barbecue grills.
For older kids and adults, Centennial Park is also home to TreeGo, an adventure course in the tree tops.
Centennial Park is a well-maintained, year-round recreation destination for Moncton and the surrounding communities, with a long history of being the backdrop to gatherings and celebrations. It is a one-stop spot for cooling off either in the shade, the splash pad, or the new pool. There are 94 hectares, with a trail system that is used year-round. The park is also home to Rocky Stone Field (football), the Moncton Lawn Bowling Club, Tennis Moncton, and Camp Centennial, which offers summer programming for children and is the point of contact for renting the lodge, a great spot for large group gatherings.
To find it, head to the corner of St. George and Milner Road, or just set the GPS for 811 St George Blvd.
