Hillsborough’s Fenced In Playground!

FENCED-IN PLAYGROUND IN HILLSBOROUGH

Big shout out to a loyal reader who told us to check out Hillsborough’s fantastic fenced-in playground, nestled behind the visitor’s centre and Artisan’s Village. This isn’t a large playground or one likely to be a huge hit with older kids, but it’s the perfect little day trip destination with toddlers!

The playspace is entirely fenced in, there are washrooms right next to it, parking spaces, picnic tables, walking trails around the marsh, and a constant view of the trains and even a plane at the New Brunswick Railway Museum. This really is such a pretty spot to visit!

There’s a swing set with two infant seats and two traditional swing seats. There is a small structure with a slide perfect for little ones, and a second slightly larger structure with monkey bars that could appeal to older kids.

There are lots of great spots to enjoy in and around the village, too – the nearby museums, treats at Cinnamon Soul Cafe or a meal at Rocco’s Cucina, a Saturday visit to the Farmer’s Market and so much more! The playground might be the draw for the kids, but parents can find lots to enjoy in Hillsborough, as well.

A personal favourite: keep driving down to the Mary’s Point area and check out Harvey’s Shipyard Park. Such a hidden gem, and such a shame that the wooden ship replica has run into trouble being maintained since it was built in 2006. Just looking at the photos makes me ready to hop on the road for another trip!

The Hillsborough Playground is also on the same road that leads to a lovely walking trail near the old gypsum silos. Pro tip: try going at low tide, as you’ll see more of the mud flats and the bottom of the silos.
