Welcome to another weekend filled with possibilities for family fun! Thank you for visiting Pickle Planet; if you’re new-ish around here, or just haven’t thought lately about why this site exists, please take a few moments to look around after you’ve made your weekend plans. We’re heading towards our 10th anniversary and would love to have you cheering along as we celebrate! But for now – let’s talk about what’s up this weekend!

It’s MAPLE SEASON!! We have our full Guide to Maple Sugar Camps with tons of details, but here’s the quick info you want locally this weekend:

Maple Sugar Camps in the Greater Moncton Area

  • 🍁Renton Brothers Family Sugarbush is filled with family history; it’s a 5th generation tradition! They’re at 1270 Gorge Road in Moncton; the blue building with the smiley face. They’re open to the public Saturdays & Sundays, 9:30am-4pm. It’s usually 10am before the sweets are ready for the day, FYI, and be prepared for the potentially muddy walk!   • 🍁Trites Maples offers pancake breakfasts starting at 8am on Saturdays (cash only; until April 12). On Sundays, you can enjoy a tour at 10am, noon, & 2pm. Head for the “4th camp with the green metal roof” at the end of Maple Ridge Trail, about a 15-minute walk from where you can park at 1270 Gorge Road in Moncton.   • 🍁Fundy Maple can be found at 6 Dewey Road, Turtle Creek, on the outskirts of Riverview. They’re open Fridays and Saturdays, 10am-3pm, with free tours at 11am and 1pm. (You can also email to book a private tour.)
  • 🍁Château Scoudouc is about a 15 minute drive from Downtown Moncton & has the cutest little shop filled with dozens and dozens of maple products! Their season is March 1 – April 27, 2025 – with brunches 9am-1pm on Saturdays & Sundays. Guided tours are offered in French at 1:30pm & in English at 3pm.
  • 🍁And for those 19+ who like a little indulgence, I highlight suggest checking out Maple Fest at Magnetic Hill Winery! You can enjoy a free sample of their amazing maple swish wine – straight from the barrel! They also have two fantastic maple cocktails and a special maple dessert board that is perfect to share!
We don’t always include Thursday events, but there are a few we thought you’d want to know this week!
  • PAW is holding a birthday party for Buttercup, their one-eyed guinea pig – and everyone’s invited! There’ll be cupcakes, colouring, stories, and more. This is a fundraiser for the centre; entry is $10/person or $25/family. If you can bring gifts, they’re accepting gift cards to gardening stores or supplies.
  • If you’re thinking of travelling with the family this summer, you might want to visit the RV Show at the Coliseum, open today until Sunday.
  • Tonight/tomorrow morning is also a full lunar eclipse – so don’t get freaked out if the kiddos wake you up at 3am and the moon is full and red!

Nova Scotia is heading into the last weekend of their March Break; Amherst Theatres March Break Morning Movies today include Ready Player One at 11am, The Lego Movie at 11:30am, and Space Jam at noon; cost is $3.49.

IHW Wrestling returns to the Coverdale Recreation Centre, with some great match ups including veterans Forever Young up against rookies AWOL.

The Moncton Market & the Dieppe Market are both open on Saturdays at 8am, with fantastic options for local goodies. (The Moncton Market is open until 2pm; Dieppe’s market closes at 1pm.) (On our radar this week: Lejucy Cafe’s donut bagels at the Moncton Market!)

Today’s the monthly pancake & sausage breakfast at the Salisbury Lions Club. A great meal for just $10/plate – $5 for those ages six to 10 & free for preschoolers. Food served 7-10am.

Riverview’s Coverdale Masonic Temple is also hosting a pancake & sausage breakfast this morning, 8:30-11am. Cost is $10/plate; $5/children.

Kept on Main is holding a Spring Market: Moncton in Bloom, 10am-3pm, with lots of special vendors in store!

The Ukrainian Club of Moncton is hosting several Pysanky workshops, suitable for ages eight & older. Cost is $40/person, all materials included. The sessions last about 2.5 hours and take place at their location on Park Street, Moncton. The workshops are at 2:30pm today, March 22, and March 29. Be sure to sign up in advance; spaces are filling fast!

The Gujarati Society of New Brunswick is holding a Holi celebration at the BGC Dieppe, including a public speaking contest for kids (ages eight to 15).

The fabulous Jennifer McGrath is holding a virtual book launch today at 1pm.

Members of Baton Atlantik will be hosting a Twirl Party at the Crossman Centre, 5:30-9pm. A great chance for youth interested in the sport to learn from local competitive athletes! Cost is $40 if you register in advance.

Teen with a love for puppies? Check out Puppy Yoga at 5:30pm! Open to ages 14+ WITH an adult, these sessions involve 45 minutes of yoga while the puppies roam the room and end with 15 minutes of cuddle time. Register online in advance; spaces limited. There are sessions scheduled later in the month, too!

The Moncton Wildcats face off against the Saint John Sea Dog tonight. They’re also hosting Hockey Card Night at the Den; you’ll get a special edition Wildcats card with the purchase of a pack.

The Tri-City Tide’s home opener is tonight, against the Halifax Hoopers. The game is at Crandall University at 7pm.

One of our favourite Canadian comics, Steve Patterson, is bringing his 90-minute stand up show to the Capitol Theatre tonight. You might not want to bring the kids, but there are sure to be lots of jokes at their expense in his PatterDad special! (Children 12+ are allowedy

Francophonie Week kicks off today, with a great line up of events in Dieppe, the largest Acadian city in the world! Head to the Dieppe Arts & Culture Centre today at 2pm for a free showing of Katak, le brave beluga. (Reserve your seats in advance online.) Check their line up for some great kid-friendly events next weekend, including a comic making workshop & a visit with Cindy Roy.

Sunday winter openings at the Zoo are a Moncton tradition! Visit with winter hardy animals, as well as those inside the Ecodome and the Imaginarium, purchase maple treats at the mobile sugar bush, search for clues in the outdoor scavenger hunt, enjoy free hot chocolate and cookies (while supplies last), and take in presentations at 11:30am with the otters, 1pm with the caribou, and tigers at 2pm.

Discovery Lab Sundays return to Resurgo Place, with a new guest each until the end of April! These special presentations are included with your regular admission and are a great way to add a little extra time and fun to your visit. This week, visit with folks from Musée acadien de l’Université de Moncton. Next up, it’s the Albert County Museum, Joel Culligan UrbanstyleArt (March 30), Théâtre Capitol Academy (April 6), MR21 – Digital Cathedral (Apr 13), and Science East (Apr 27).

The Indo-Canada Association of the Greater Moncton Area is holding a Holi celebration at École Mathieu-Martin, 11am-3pm.

The Shediac Yoga Festival takes place today, with a market from 11am-4pm and various yoga classes starting just after 1pm. Register in advance for the class you want so you don’t miss out; spaces are limited.

The Petitcodiac Legion is hosting an afternoon St. Patrick’s Day themed bingo, open to all ages. Doors open at 1pm, games begin at 2pm.

The Wildcats host the Titan for an afternoon game at 3pm. The Cats will be wearing St. Patrick’s Day jerseys that will be auctioned off. It’s sure to be a great time!

Monday is St. Patrick’s Day! Expect green & rainbow themes to pop up everywhere!

Ready for the beach? BGC Dieppe’s popular Beach Party returns March 21! Just $5/person, you can enjoy bouncy castles, food & drinks, arts & crafts, music, & more! Great fun for the whole family, 6-8pm.

Next Saturday, March 22 Champions of Magic will be at the Avenir Centre. This show looks like an incredible feast for the senses – and great family fun!

Also on March 22, there’s an Easter egg embroidery workshop at the Ukrainian Hub. Spaces are limited, so sign up soon if you’re interested.

Bar Laitier Amiro Dairy Bar is opening for the season on March 28 at 3pm; that’s worth setting a reminder for!

Children’s author Eric Fontaine is holding a book launch at Cremerie Bennic Dairy Bar on March 29, 2-4pm.

The Fundy Fanciers Cat Show is coming to the Coverdale Centre in Riverview on March 29, 9am-3pm.
