What to do with the kids this weekend in Greater Moncton (Jan 26-28)

Hey everyone! Sorry we’re hitting publish a little late on this week’s round up – we’ve been working on a few projects, like our Guide to Riverview’s Winter Carnival, helping out with the Hubcap Comedy Festival, & the annual Robert Burns Dinner by the Greater Moncton Scottish Association, so we’re behind on the usual fun here at Pickle Planet HQ. Turns out, it’s a quiet weekend ahead for family-related events, but we have a few to highlight & some neat attraction & other info to share, too!

Psst! We had the BEST time having East Coast Mermaid Crystal Richard in studio this week. Watch for our full episode with her on Monday, with lots of beach glass hunting tips & tricks!

Now, on to the weekend fun!

Have you checked out Board Miniatures yet? They’ve just opened on Main Street in Moncton – in fact, their official grand opening hasn’t even happened yet! (It’s coming next weekend!) You can play board games on site, as well as purchase miniatures and supplies like paint and dice. We picked up some of their creations at Christmas at the Coliseum & can’t wait to get more at the shop. We’re also very keen for some of their drop in sessions – and we hear there are birthday party options in the works, too!

Also new on the scene is Loopy Wool in Salisbury; lots of inspiration for creative projects with the family or solo here, too! I used to do rug hooking when I was young and can’t believe there’s a whole store full of goodies just up the road.

If you pop into either shop, or any business we mention, please take a moment to let them know where you heard about them. We love helping support our community by creating these moments!

SLIDING HILLS IN GREATER MONCTON

Tobogganing, sliding, sledding – whatever you call it, it’s one of the most fun things to do in winter! There may or may not be enough snow this weekend to hit the hills, but just in case … here are a few to-go spots to seek out over the coming weeks & months:

  • There are a few municipally-approved toboggan runs at Centennial Park in Moncton.
  • Rotary St-Anselme Park in Dieppe also has several great spots.
  • In Riverview, head to Winter Wonderland Park, on Quinn Court (off Gunningsville Boulevard) for some awesome tracks (and some snowboarding ones, too!) or behind Claude D. Taylor School.
  • Our kids love sliding at Highland Parkin Salisbury; the hill is fantastic!
  • Shediac’s Pascal Poirier Park is often home to many sliding tracks in the winter.
  • In Fundy Park, check out the Headquarters Tobogganing Hill, and if you’re at Kouchibouquac Park, Patterson Hillis a great spot for sliding, though it is a long walk (2km) to reach the site.
