What to do with the kids in Greater Moncton this weekend (Sept 6-8, 2024)

Hello everyone! Welcome back to routine – and our apologies to everyone who was missing us while we took some much needed rest in August! September is FULL of fun so let’s get to it!

🎈It’s Atlantic Balloon Fiesta time again! Daily launches today at 6:30am, 5:30pm, & 8pm (weather permitting), indoor market ($2 admission), live music, amusement rides & laser tag (pay to ride/play), touch-a-truck, magic shows, Mi’kmaq Heritage Actors, a rodeo event, & more! 🎨 Shediac’s art festival, HomArt, takes place this weekend. There are lots of fun events, including buskers, chalk art, family movie in the park, & a live speed art event all happening. You can find the full schedule at www.shediachomart.com – Watch for updates on their social media, due to the weather forecast!

It’s the final few days to visit the 🐝 bee exhibit at Resurgo Place! It’s an interactive, bilingual travelling exhibit that’s sure to add lots of interest for all ages! Resurgo Place is open Fridays & Saturdays, 10am-5pm, and noon-5pm on Sundays. (The museum is closed Mondays.)

⚾ The Moncton Mets host the Chatham Ironmen at 7:30pm at Kiwanis Field in Moncton.

🦋 Weather permitting, The Boardwalk & Butterfly World are both open Friday late afternoon, Saturday, & Sunday.

Magic Mountain’s GofZone & TekZone are scheduled to open noon to 6pm on Saturdays in September.

🌟SkyZone’s Glow Zone happens every Friday & Saturday night, 7-10pm. Regular admission rates & you must wear white or florescent!

🍿 The Sussex Drive In is showing the new Beetlejuice & the original Twister. Admission is $13/adult, $9 for children ages 5-15, & free for those four and under.

🎥 Shediac’s Neptune Drive In is showing the new Beetlejuice & Blink Twice. Admission is $35 for a car or $10 for ages 12+ & $7 for those under (with five & under free); Sunday is cheap night, with a carload for $25 or $7/each.

🔫 The SportsDome has laser tag on Friday nights, 6-8pm & group bookings available at other times.

✨ AWESOME ALERT: AMP it Up Dance Studio in Salisbury is opening up three sponsored spaces for dancers who want to join and experience the joy of dance but are limited financially. Check out their page for details; open to children ages four through 17!✨

Another heads up: Cineplex’s annual Community Day is happening next Saturday, Sept 14 – but you can go online now & book yourself for the discounted movies! We spy some PAW Patrol options at Dieppe & Trinity!

MOSAÏQ 2024 kicks off today at Riverfront Park in Moncton. This is always a fabulous celebration of the cultures that call Greater Moncton home! You can find the full line up of events on their website: www.mosaiqmoncton.ca The fun begins with the Parade of Nations at 10am, with music, presentations, food, and more throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Highlights include New Brunswick’s own Wolf Castle & The Olympic Symphonium at 7pm & Neon Dreams at 8:15pm. Weather permitting, there will be fireworks just after 9pm! The Tjipogtotjg Bouctouche Powwow takes place today & tomorrow.

The Moncton Wildcats regular season starts up the end of this month, but they play a pre-season tonight in Bouctouche. (Be sure to get your ticket in advance; they’re going fast!)

506 Elite Allstars has an open house Saturday from 2-4. We love their gym space & all the fabulous programming they offer. This is a great chance to check out it!

Belliveau Orchard’s Apple U-Pick opens today! 10am-5pm, with tractor rides & lots of price options – including a $3 children’s bag perfect for little pickers, up to a 20lbs bag for $28. (Special varieties are $22 for a 10lb bag.)

There were still a few spaces for today’s Pizza for the Primates at the Magnetic Hill Zoo when we checked. (And some for September 21, too, as well as some for Tiger Tales on Septmeber 14 & 28 – but don’t wait if you’re interested!)

River Glade Motor Cross hosts its final race weekend of the season, with events today & tomorrow.

The Comic Hunter is hosting a free day filled with introductions to various games. Volunteers will explain different games from noon until 6pm; drop in!

Chapters Moncton has an in-store play doh event happening at 1pm.

Toys R Us has a Care Bears in-store event, with giveaways while supplies last, starting at 1pm.

Mastermind Toys has an in-store UNO & Lorcana event today, 1-3pm.

The Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope takes place Sunday morning at Mapleton Park, starting at the Gorge Road entrance.

If you’re into collectibles, you’ll want to hit up the Maritime Collectibles Market at the Crowne Plaza today, 9:30am-2pm. Vendors will have everything from Hot Wheels to Pokemon, sports cards, Funko Pops, table top games, comics, & more. Admission is $5, children under 12 free.

🏊‍♀️ The indoor splash pad at the YMCA North End is an amazing option for kiddos – with public openings every day of the week! Check the schedule as times vary day-to-day; cost to attend for non-member is $6.

🏊‍♀️ For indoor swimming, there are public options at the YMCA Greater Moncton (love their small, warmer pool for little ones – Friday public swim 7-8pm, Saturday public swim 6:30-7:45, & Sunday public swim 2-3pm – thanks to the City, Friday & Sunday swims are just $3/person), the Pat Crossman Aquatic Centre in Riverview starting September 14 (Saturday public swims, 2-3:30pm), and the Dieppe Aquatic Centre (with the awesome sloped entry & pirate ship splash zone!).

🎧 There’s a roughly one hour iTour of downtown Moncton’s historical & cultural locations you can use to help you explore – a great way to add a little movement, a little history, and a little fun to your family outings! Be sure to check out all the amazing public art installations around the downtown core, too!

👧 Hop! Skip! Jump! is perfect for little ones, as well as the cool climbing wall & laser room for older kids.

🎳 Bowling is always a fun idea! Go retro vibes with Marvelous Holy Bowly in Riverview, check out glow bowling times at Fairlanes in Moncton, or head to Bowlarama & its awesome arcade in Dieppe. (We recommend calling ahead to book in advance so you’re not disappointed.)

🎨 Creative mood? Try DIY Studio to paint your own pottery!

🔐 Up for a challenge? Room Escape Atlantic usually has a few non-scary, kid-friendly options & Mystery Moncton Mystere is great for the teens & up. There are also online options you can purchase to play on your own time, like … Motive for Murder audio game — A great ‘any time of day’ option for the true crime fans who are up for a little hometown sleuthing. Download a whodunnit set in Moncton!

🎲 If board games are your family thing, check out the new shop on Moncton’s Main Street, Board Miniatures! The have a standing paint and play tabletop session on Sundays.

🐟 Bass Pro’s 12,000-gallon freshwater aquarium with striped bass, Atlantic sturgeon, trout, perch, and more is always fun to visit, especially when you need an indoor option.

📚 Local libraries are always a great spot to visit, with lots of programming for all ages – and also another rainy day must visit option.

🏫 Resurgo Place is another spot we love to visit again & again; history, hands-on science & arts, & special programming, too!

🦖 The Albert County Museum is open throughout September, with a special guest – Albert, the Albertosaurus!

🚵 Poley Mountain has mountain bike trails, including beginner routes for ages 6+ – and they’re planning some summer events geared to the littles with bouncy castles, balance bikes on the lawn, & kid-friendly options on the Slope Side Bar & Grill. DYK: They have an RV park, too?

🦙 Llamazing Adventures is a great way to get out & get moving! Take the llamas for a walk!

🍦Trueman’s Blueberry Farm is also a fabulous ice cream destination – and on the weekend they have a train you can ride!

🤘 BGC Dieppe is always a great place for families to connect.

The Albert County Exhibition runs September 12-15.

The Green Pig Country Market is open again – and their fabulous corn maze returns September 14! (The mini maze is perfect for toddlers – and a great weekday option to avoid crowds, if you can!)

Yard sale fans already likely have the next few events marked on the calendar. The World’s Largest Garage Sale returns to the Moncton Coliseum on Saturday, September 14 from 9am-4pm, with hundreds of vendors.

There’ll be a car seat clinic on September 14 at the Riverview Fire Station.

We can’t wait for the Grand Opening celebration for the new Parc Brookridge Park in Maple Hills. You’re invited to bring a picnic, enjoy a cash market with vendors, a Touch-a-Truck section, balloon twisting, selfies with Mr. Bear, and more on September 15!

NB Open Farm Day returns September 15!

There’s a supermoon coming September 18 – meaning high highs & low lows for the tides in & around that day.

Riverview’s Harvest Fest returns September 20-22. Residents can register for their Pumpkin Palooza kit now!

The amazing Moncton Multiples Consignment Sale takes place at the Coliseum on September 21. (And if that doesn’t fill your kids’ consignment bucket, the fall/winter Grapevine Events pop up consignment event happens in Saint John October 4 & 5. We know lots of local folks travel down for the shopping!)

The Moncton Wildcats regular season starts up the end of this month, with a game September 28 & 29 at the Avenir Centre.

Beloved Miniature Horses is holding an open house on September 30, with lots of animals to meet, face painting, & more.
