Moncton’s Gurney Drive Park
Moncton’s Gurney Park first caught my eye years ago. I was driving to meet someone and glanced what seemed like an incredible climbing structure out the van window. I wasn’t mistaken; this little gem of a playground is worth searching out!
Gurney Park is sort of tucked behind the Home Hardware store on Elmwood Drive; it wasn’t hard to find at all and there are lots of great spots nearby to head for a treat if you’re so inclined!
Gurney Drive is a narrow, quiet road; we didn’t have trouble parking alongside the playground, which has a lovely sloping field that appears to be used for kite flying often, given some debris we found. It also backs on to the train tracks, and we were able to get an up-close view of an engine going by the afternoon we visited!
There is a small splash area, with several water spouts out of the ground and one from above. Plenty of cool fun on a hot day!
There’s a lovely shelter with lots of benches and even a few tables with chessboards built in!
The park has one swing set with a couple infant seats and a couple plain swings. There are also bike racks and garbage cans; no washrooms.
But the true draw here is the unique climbing structure! Toddlers might not find this as interesting (though it’s built in a way that is accessible for them!), but it was a perfect challenge for the over-five-years-old crowd. They even climbed up with a snack!
We had a great time enjoying this playground and will be back for sure! You can find it by heading to 7 Gurney Drive, Moncton.
