What to do with the kids in Greater Moncton this weekend (June 2-4)

Welcome to June, everyone! This month is already jam packed with amazing events & activities planned, so be sure to keep checking back as we add more & more to our site! Let’s get to it, shall we?

FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND

The School of Atlantic Ballet presents Madagascar: a Musical Adventure Jr. Friday and Saturday at the Moncton Wesleyan Centre.

The Sussex Drive In is showing Super Mario Bros & Fast & Furious 10 this weekend.

East Coast Amusements is back at the Moncton Coliseum! They’re set up until June 4 (and not back until late September.)

Friday sees IHW Wrestling return to Riverview’s Coverdale Rec Centre. The main event is a four-way ladder match to determine the new IHW champ!

FREE MUSIC is BACK! Before the pandemic, there were dozens and dozens of free musical events scattered throughout the GMA each summer. The City of Moncton will have free music at the Moncton Market on Saturdays (June 3 – August 26), family-focused free entertainment Wednesday nights (June 7 – August 30) in Centennial Park, free Tuesday night concerts June 6 – August 29 in Victoria Park. The City is also teaming up with the YMCA to host BLOCK PARTIES through the city for 13 weeks, starting June 7. We have a whole podcast episode about it & more to come! (Dieppe’s Wednesday night concerts begin in July.)

Riverview East invites everyone to enjoy their Spring Fair, Saturday from 11am – 3pm!

Trails Day in Albert County is looking like an amazing time! Come out to Riverside-Albert on Saturday to enjoy a stroll on the Shepody Trail, an ice cream from S & C, a wagon ride thanks to Broadleaf Ranch, and more.

Saturday is also Riverview’s Community Bike Rodeo, 9-11am, at the Upper Byron Dobson Arena. In the evening, take part in a Community Bike Ride along the 3.6kms of the Riverfront Trail with guide Derek Gallant of Wild Wisdom Adventures.

Several groups are joining to host a rally in Moncton Saturday to keep Policy 713 in place, as is. A great way to celebrate Pride Month!(PS: If you’re new to the area, our Pride Parade & Festival takes place near the end August.)

Memramcook’s Community Day celebration is Saturday morning, with lots of activities – including an eco-challenge created by Monique Bourque’s grade 5 class at École Abbey-Landry.

Bring the family out for ParticipACTION Community Kick Off Event at Highland Park in Salisbury on Saturday, 5-8pm.  You can also pop by Highland Park every Saturday in June for games & more with the crew from BGC Salisbury, noon – 2pm. Enjoy the splash pad, natural playground, wetlands trail, and more!

Saturday was meant to be the annual FunZOOla event, hosted by Friends of the Zoo — now moved to June 10!

Comic Hunter Moncton’s 2023  X-Wing 2.5e Store Championship Tournament is happening Saturday.

RE:FLUX is an experimental musical festival run by Galerie Sans Nom; check out the performances planned for this weekend, including the finale with Andy Creeggan and Jaeyoung Chong.

Sunday is the 17th annual PettyAuto Fest at the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame, with a BBQ, lots of great vehicles, and more.

La Bikery is hosting an Organic Plant Sale on Sunday, 10am – noon.

YUMMY MARKETS, TREATS, & MORE

The Moncton Market & the Dieppe Market are both open on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm, with fantastic options for local goodies.

Curt’s vendor market is back at the Riverview Lion’s Club this Saturday.

Many smaller communities also have markets & great hidden eating gems, like Salisbury’s growing market/antique scene (and watch for a market & ice cream returning to the Green Pig Country Market site soon), as well as the Old Church Farmer’s Market in Hillsborough & theMid-Week Farmers Market at Lutz Mountain Heritage Museum.

Magnetic Hill Wharf Village café & ice cream is open again for the season, too!

A fun spot to shop & enjoy a riverside stroll is the Starving Artist Cafe, or treat your tastebuds with a walk along St. George Street for Halo Donuts, Lost and Found Ice Cream, and maybe even a Taco in a Bag from Notre Dame de Parkton or something from Dolma. You’re also super close to Co Pain Artisan Bread Company & oodles of great restaurants!

The Arches of St. George hold regular pop-ups with some of the neatest makers around. Treats, vintage finds, jewelry, and so much more! Pop up to Apple Art Gallery & shop deux pépins.

LOOKING AHEAD

A quick heads up: in addition to running Pickle Planet and hosting/producing podcasts for several clients, I’m also the event manager for the Greater Moncton Highland Game & Scottish Festival. So … I may not manage to post a fresh round up the next two weekends, which is why I’ve been making this ‘looking ahead’ section much more robust than usual. If you know something happening before school is out that isn’t here, feel free to drop the details in the comments!

  • The Sunny Tots Park Playdates are back, starting Wednesday June 7! They post a playground each week for their meet up, everyone welcome to drop by. They also have some summer events planned, including an outdoor movie night.
  • Still in the stroller stage? Mommy Connections is hosting a free stroller social on June 9 at Dieppe’s Rotary Park. Meet up, walk the trails, and make connections. (PS: If you’re heading to Rotary Park, please note there is construction on the roadway in, so you have to park at the AJL arena. Also good to know: the splash pad is turned on as of June 1!)
  • St. Andrew’s Children’s Dances in Petitcodiac is planning a GLOW dance party for Grades K-2 (6-7pm) & Grades 3-5 (7:30-8:45pm) on June 9.
  • Be sure to check out the East Coast Comic Expo, happening June 9 & 10 at the Moncton Coliseum. Kids 12 & under enter for free with a paying adult!
  • Celebrate Philippine Independence Day (a little early) with the Filipino Food Fiestaval at Place 1604 in Dieppe June 10. Lots of yummy food, music, & more. (Watch for more details on our next podcast episode!)
  • The great crew at Mike’s Bike Shop is celebrating 40 years in business with all kinds of cool events – including a weekend of fun June 10 & 11 with SprocKids’ bike skills course on site, BBQ, special booths and games, and giveaways!
  • June 11 the amazing Josephine Watson is launching her children’s book along with several other titles from Bouton D’or. The event takes place at Aberdeen Cultural Centre at 3pm. The other authors are Nicole Poirier & Christine Arbour; all books are in French and aimed at children ages four to seven.
  • Teen or young adult looking for a way to connect & give back this summer? Head to the YMCA Moncton North on June 16 for Youth Night, a chance to connect and learn about different activities around the community. For ages 15-30, open 4-7pm.
  • The Great Benjamins Circus is at the Coliseum on Friday, June 16 – one show only!
  • The 17th annual Greater Moncton Highland Games & Scottish Festival is always a fantastic family outing, with bouncy castles, face painting, sword fighting contests, heavy event competitions, pipebands, highland dancers, and so much more!
  • The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are scheduled to be in Moncton June 17 & 18. Watch for flyovers & more – including a scheduled jump by the CF Skyhawks at the Highland Games on Saturday at 4:30pm!
  • On June 18, the Three Fathers Memorial Run returns to downtown Moncton.
  • Also that weekend, the Shediac Centre for Speed is hosting Monster Mania, billed as the biggest Monster Truck festival in the Maritimes.
  • Dieppe’s brining back ConneXion Zone at Place 1604 starting June 24! Head to the skating oval area for giant games, roller skating, vendors, and more. (The LeBarBu beer garden will be at Rotary St-Anselme Park starting June 17.)
  • Salisbury is hosting a youth ball hockey tournament on Saturday June 24th; a great way to start summer vacation!
  • Riverview Sunfest is always a great way to kick start your summer, with events June 24 to July 1.
  • Whoa Canada is Moncton’s big Canada Day concert on the waterfront. Just announced as headliners: Sloan & Les Hay Babies! The city’s press release nots there will be food vendors, family activities, and the tri-community fireworks show, too!
  • Moncton will host an International Buskers Festival July 14 – 16, with a fantastic line up of fun downtown performances.
  • Dieppe’s ImaginAIR returns to Dover Park, July 28 – 30. The skies will be full of amazing sights!
  • We can’t wait to see the streets of downtown Moncton transformed by the International Street Painting Festival happening August 5-7. There are 2D & 3D chalk artists coming to create!
  • The Napa Auto Parts World Series of Monster Trucks is coming to the Petty International Raceway on August 11-13.
  • We know there’ll be oodles of awesome parties planned for Quinzou (August 15, National Acadian Day), but we noticed Memramcook is already promoting their family events, market, tintamarre, fireworks, & music with Beauxmont, La Trappe and Louisiana band The Revelers!
  • Wrap up the summer with the River of Pride, with events August 25 to September 2.
  • FYI: Mosaiq, Moncton’s multicultural festival, is moving to September
