Remembrance Day Weekend in Moncton 2018

Here are the highlights for what’s happening this weekend in the Greater Moncton Area; get out and enjoy some quality family time in our community!

A reminder to parents: for many of us, this is an extra long weekend. You might want to check out our MEGA LIST of attractions and ongoing events, our list of indoor skating times, and our round up of local arcades!

The Boys and Girls Club of Dieppe is inviting the public to try out their new climbing wall on Friday nights from 6-9pm and Saturdays from noon until 5pm. Cost is $5/person for a session.

You can cheer on the Wildcats Friday night and Saturday night at Avenir Centre this weekend.

The 2nd annual Moncton Law Enforcement Torch Run takes place on Saturday, at the Fundy River Chocolate Station. This includes a 1km kids run, a 5km walk/run, and a 10km option. There is a registration fee, even for the children’s run, as this is a fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Second Saturday of the month means its Chess Club time at the Moncton library! (Ages five and up; please register in advance.) This Saturday is also a crafternoon session; no registration required.

Saturday is an all-ages skate and competition at the Riverview Skate Park, 11am until 10pm.

Our family enjoyed watching the Teen Titans Go! Movie this summer in the theatre – and we might just do it again this Saturday for just $2.99 per ticket!

This Saturday morning, kids (with parental supervision) can create a rocket bowling launcher during Resurgo Place’s SaturDIY; cost is $5.

The second Saturday of each month there’s a free DIY workshop for kids at Home Depot stores. This is meant for ages five to 12.

Michaels has several fun seasonal crafts planned this Saturday; check their site for options and cost.

Do you know New Brunswicker David Myles’ song, Santa Never Brings me a Banjo? It’s one of our family’s favourites! This year, David has released it as a book – and you can pick up an autographed copy to gift this Saturday at Sackville’s Tidewater Books!

So many great craft shows to visit these days, including the 20th annual Christmas Craft Fair at Crandall University, with proceeds from admission going to the Single Parent Scholarship Fund. (Children 12 and under are free; others are $3).

Sunday is Remembrance Day. The annual service presented by the City of Moncton will take place at the Moncton Coliseum, starting at 10:30am. This service is expected to last until noon. The Town of Riverview will hold a ceremony at 10:50am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Fatima Drive, followed by a reception at the Dan Bohan Family Centre. Dieppe’s service takes place at École Mathieu-Martin, with a veteran’s parade forming outside at approximately 10:30am and proceeding indoors. A reception follows at the Dieppe Golden Age Club. Shediac will hold its Remembrance Day service at LJR High School starting at 10am. In Sackville, the parade forms up in front of the Legion at 9:15 then marches toward Convocation Hall for the service. Following that, the parade marches do the town’s Cenotaph and then returns to the Legion. Memramcook’s Remembrance Day ceremony takes place at Veteran’s Park at 11am, and will include the unveiling of a marker. There is also usually an outdoor service with the Sunny Brae Legion at the cenotaph on Massey Avenue, as well as a gathering in Moncton’s Victoria Park.

The YMCA is open to non-members for swimming this Sunday from 1:30-3:30pm; cost is $2.

A lovely way to spend Sunday evening will be at the Avenir Centre for the Thank You Canada Tour with skating stars Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir, Patrick Chan, Kaetlyn Osmond, Elvis Stojko, Meagan Duhamel, Eric Radford, and more.

Monday is a great day to take in public skating times with the family, go for a walk through local trails like Sackville’s Waterfowl Park, Irishtown Nature Park, and the Dobson Trail, or plan a family board game tournament at home! Wishing you a wonderful weekend with your family, and watch our page for some serious holiday fun coming your way soon – including a giveaway for VIP passes for a sneak peek at some of the floats in the Royale Greater Moncton Santa Claus Parade!
