New Brunswick’s Rising Tide Festival, curated by Friends of Fundy, is a unique annual celebration that stretches throughout the UNESCO Fundy Biosphere Reserve. It combines outdoor adventures with musical performances and culinary experiences from St. Martin’s to Hillsborough. This is a wonderfully relaxed, family-friendly festival that blends culture and nature in a way that truly reflects the magic of the area in which its held. If you haven’t been yet, we highly recommend you read on & make plans!

Saturday, August 6: Kick off event in Hillsborough
Make plans to spend the whole day in the community! Start with the Kiwanis Breakfast (8-10am), sign up for a guided tour of the Wetland Park Trail with Heather Fraser, grab lunch at the The Old Church Farmer’s Market which will be bustling with vendors and the sea shanty sounds of Before the Mast, pop over to the flea market at the ball field, then check out the Riverside Modellers flying remote aircraft at the end of Steeves Street in the afternoon. Saturday will also be the official opening of the Gateway Market, the Artisan Village huts will be open, and you can plan to visit the New Brunswick Railway Museum, the William Henry Steeves Museum, and the rest of the great businesses in the village.
Sunday, August 7: Fundy National Park Fun
Start the day with the amazing Ashley Sanipass, who’ll show you how to use traditional weaving techniques to create a wood flower. (Registration required in advance!) Watch for events throughout the park during the day, with Olympic Symphonium & Les Fireflies taking the stage at the ampitheatre at 2pm.
Tuesday, August 9: Isaac & Blewett & Friends
We LOVE free, outdoor concerts in the summer – the perfect way to introduce younger kids to live music! Isaac & Blewett are legends in East Coast music circles, and with Sara Liptay & Ian Duncan joining them for the night, you know the tunes will be top notch. Bonus is that this concert takes place along the Shepody Trail by the incredible architectural gem that is Riverside-Albert Consolidated School.
Friday, August 12: Children’s Festival
Pickle Planet is thrilled to be helping present the all-new Children’s Festival at the Albert County Museum – and to share that it’s partnering with Rising Tide Festival for a cross-over event on Friday, August 12. One of our favourite local children’s authors, Jennifer McGrath, will be on hand; her newest picture book, Pugs Cause Traffic Jams, is sure to be a huge hit with doggie lovers! There will also be live music, hands-on activities, and of course all the amazing displays at the museum. The special events run from 10am until 3pm; admission is the general museum admission for the day. PS: Watch for a full blog post on the Living by the Sea Children’s Festival coming soon!!

If music is your jam, head to St. Martin’s to hear Fundy Ceilidh, another cross-festival partnership with the new Fundy Sea Shanty Festival that’s we’re so excited about. If Hodge Podge is your thing, you likely already know what’s happening at Fundy Farms that day. 😛 And if you’re more into mountain biking, check out the skills workshop at Poley Mountain. Wherever you choose to visit, we know it will be a great time!
