Canada Day Long Weekend in Moncton, Riverview, Dieppe, and area
Welcome to the Canada Day Long Weekend, everyone!
Sit back, relax, enjoy your time – and make family outings easy with our weekend round up, filled with dozens of awesome ideas for fun this weekend! We’ve put together this list after checking dozens and dozens of websites; please be sure to click through to the source before heading out to confirm nothing has changed since we looked them up, or to see if the weather is impacting scheduled plans.
Riverview is celebrating its annual SunFest, which means there are lots of activities take place now until Canada Day. The annual Splash into Summer pool party is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Lion Ken Gabbey Pool on Killarney Road. Children ages six to 12 can also take part in the popular (and free!) Soap Slide at Byron Court Thursday afternoon. (The slide goes from 1pm until 3pm, while the pool party goes until 4:30pm, so we suggest doing one than the other!) Watch for more Sunfest events scattered throughout the round up – we’re keeping things chronological!
Also on Thursday, Moncton will celebrate Canadian Multiculturalism Day with musical performances, education opportunities, and more at Oak Lane from noon until 3pm on Thursday.
The City of Dieppe is showing free family movies on Thursday nights at Place 1604; this week, it’s Dragons: le monde cache.
Every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday until July 21, Bass Pro is offering workshops for kids and adults, at noon, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm.
Great for summer nights, Resurgo Place is open late on Thursdays, and admission for 5pm to 8pm is half-off the individual rate!
Thursday’s are also a great night to shop, with the return of the Moncton Maker Night Market at Oak Lane, hosted by My Home Mercantile. Live music, local crafters, and much more!
Sunfest’s Friday programming includes a free Pirates & Princesses Party at Caseley Park in the morning, storytime with Beth Weatherbee at the library at 1pm (reading Take off to Tantramar and Maritime Melange), and you can enjoy a free outdoor movie in Caseley Park at dusk.
Hillsborough’s Steeves House Museum is also planning a Superhero and Princess Tea Party for Friday; $5/ticket.
Friday in Sackville there’s an All Ages Talent Night at the Sackville Commons.
Marielle, the comfort dog, will be meeting folks at the 8th Annual Shediac Charity BBQ at IGA Co-op Shediac during lunchtime on Friday. The event is supporting the Beausejour Family Crisis Resource Centre.
At the movies this weekend, Sussex Drive In is showing Aladdin, Avengers: Endgame, and John Wick 3, Neptune Drive In in Shediac is playing Godzilla: Kind of the Monsters and Shaft (gates open at 8pm, show begins 9:50pm), and the $2.99 Saturday morning special at Cineplex is How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Truro’s Riverbreeze Farm is again holding its Baby Animal Festival this Saturday (rain date Sunday); children three and under are free, others are $7, cash only. Open 11am until 4pm.
Toys R Us is promoting a ‘school’s out’ celebration; bring your report card in Friday or Saturday for a $5 gift card!
Saturday is Get in Motion at Centennial Park; try the new climbing wall at Camp Centennial for free, 10am until 2pm. First come, first serve. Weather permitting.
Camp Wildwood is holding a Family Day Saturday with swimming, canoeing, kayaking, zipline, climbing wall, BBQ, and more starting at 2pm. Call the Camp Office at 1-506-743-2757 to register your family; cost is $5/person or $20/immediate family.
The Community Tree Yoga Studio is holding an all-ages family yoga class on the deck outside the Chocolate River Station on Sunday morning at 11am; please bring your own mat or towel.
Also happening as part of Sunfest in Riverview on Sunday is the annual DeMolay Car Rally, which looks like a great family adventure!
Sunday is the annual Pops NB concert, with children, you, and professional orchestras joining with special guests for an incredible outdoor concert at Downtown Place, beginning at 6pm.
The last Sunday of the month is family move day at the Moncton Public Library. This weekend, enjoy Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, shown in English at 1pm and French at 3pm.
The Moncton FisherCats have home games Sunday evening and Monday afternoon if you’re up for a little baseball this weekend!
Monday is Canada Day and there is LOTS to do!
In Riverview, the town shuts down a section of Coverdale Road and the party is epic! Come between noon and 5pm for live music, free bouncy castles, face painting, and lots of vendors to visit. Kids will be sure to enjoy magician and illusionist Remi Boudreau at 3pm!
In Dieppe, there’s fun at Place 1604 from 10am until 4pm, with a free BBQ, live music, and the official launch of ConneXion Zone, a fun installation of oversize games!
Moncton’s celebrations will be at Riverfront Park, with a Kids Play Zone starting at 11am, featuring bouncy castles, a water slide, vendors, yoga, and more. Kids entertainment runs throughout the day, with performances by Féeli Tout, Art Richard, and more. Main stage music begins at 5pm, with Izabelle, Ariane Moffat, and April Wine. When the band finishes as 10pm, the tri-city community fireworks are scheduled to begin!
Sackville celebrates with a Strawberry Social at the Tantramar Heritage Trust from 2pm until 4pm. Enjoy children’s games, lemonade, face painting, and more.
There will be a live band, children’s games, cake, and ice cream at the Veteran’s Centre in Dorchester on Canada Day, with special tours at Keillor House and St. James Museum during the day.
Memramcook will celebrate at Monument-Lefebvre (Eugène Leblanc Arena if it rains) starting at 11am, with bouncy castles, face painting, and a free BBQ at noon.
Aboiteau Beach will host Cap-Pelé’s celebrations, with a freestyle sand sculpting activity, balloon twisting, live music, and more throughout the day.
Head to Rotary Park in Shediac Monday evening for BBQ, bouncy castles, and more starting at 7pm. There will be fireworks, too!
Salisbury’s Canada Day celebrations are scheduled for Highland Park (rain location Douglas Street) from 11am until 2pm, with the Zack Lane Trio performing. There will be free face painting, BBQ, cake, and games.
There are lots of events planned for Hillsborough on Canada Day, including a free BBQ at the Artisan’s Village and a Touch-a-Truck event (noon till 2pm), bouncy castles, balloon twisting, princesses, cake and more at the Kiwanis Ball Field starting at 6:30pm, and the village’s fireworks are scheduled for 10pm. And all day you can visit the NB Museum Railway and the William Henry Steeves House Museum for free!
Hopewell Rocks is offering free High Tide walks at 10:30am in English and 11am in French, as well as a free Low Tide walk (in English) at 4:30pm. The site will also have live music with the Steve Leblanc Duo in the Lower Site from 12-1:30pm, and the Samantha Robichaud Duo in the Upper Site from 1:30-3pm.
Alma is holding events all weekend long, with lots of fun including fireworks planned for Monday!
As for what’s open on Monday, most businesses will be closed, so be sure to double check before heading out. The Magnetic Hill Zoo and TreeGo will be open. For more on other communities around the province, our good friends at Network of Moms have a great list!
