What to do Halloween weekend with the kids in Greater Moncton (Oct 31 – Nov 3)

Welcome to the end of October, everyone! Hard to believe it’s almost the end of 2024 – but don’t worry, there is lots of fun still to be had! Let’s kick it off with some Halloween fun, followed by some other amazing events this weekend!

HALLOWEEN – THURSDAY OCTOBER 31

Kept on Main invites all witches, ghosts, goblins, & more to drop in during Halloween. They’re open 10am-5:30pm & will have treat bags for those who dare to dress up! (They also have a 30% off sale on fall/pumpkin/Halloween items, so you can treat yourself, too!)

Resurgo Place is open 10am – 8pm on Thursdays. Drop by for a spooky craft today; admission rates apply, but are 50% off after 5pm.

Salisbury’s Pizza Mill welcomes trick-or-treaters AND has an awesome deal from 3-8pm – a 9-inch cheese or pepperoni pizza for just $4.99!

Shediac will have people offering Halloween face painting at Centenaire Park, Ourson Park, & the Pointe-du-Chêne Community Center from 3:30-5:30pm.

Bass Pro’s Halloween event is happening 4-8pm. Enjoy trick or treating in the store & get a digital photo, too!

There’s a Trunk or Treat happening in Memramcook4-7pm, in the parking lot the Marie Léonie Hall. If you’d like to participate as a car, email danseenlairnb@gmail.com.

The Crowne Plaza Downtown Moncton is inviting kids to trick-or-treat in the hotel lobby. They’ll have treat bags from 5-8pm!

The haunted house on the corner of Pellerin & Rockcliffe has live actors tonight, 5-8:30pm. Donations accepted for Birchmount School. (Expect the scare factor to increase after 6:30pm.)

Enjoy Halloween at the Barn and/or the Ghostly Grove Haunted Tour at Blossom Grove! The Barn will be open 5-10pm, with family-friendly displays, trick-or-treat stations, amazing craft vendors, petting farm, campfire & s’mores. You can pay at the door for entry for this portion ($8/$5 for kids); tickets for the Ghostly Grove are limited, so book online. This is an outdoor, guided scary walk through the woods; cost is $25 (and includes the barn, too). Not recommended for those 13 & under.

Board Miniatures on Main Street, Moncton will have a special event tonight, starting at 6pm. The author of the EVERTAIL series will be at the store and the first two people to arrive dressed in book-related costumes will receive a special painted miniature!

Looking for some great decorations to check out? Here are a few houses & areas we know are keen to have you visit:

  • Visit Waterfall Drive in Riverview for Keeping Up With The Bones – and check out the neighbours on the other side of the street, too!
  • Killarney Road in Riverview has one of the most impressive displays we’ve seen!
  • Watch for the mannequin family on Coverdale Road in Riverview, near the Gunningsville Bridge.
  • The corner of Alexander Avenue & Milner Road in Moncton is always a treat to visit. Don’t miss the dancing skeletons & the pirate ship!
  • There’s a house on Broadview Ave in Moncton that has a yard filled with amazing displays – but it’s the windows & balcony that we loved most!
  • The corner of Pellerin & Rockcliffe is amazing (behind the Coliseum); the flying ghost was the hit for our family.
  • Falcon Drive in Moncton is another neighbourhood that’s always worth a visit.
  • In Dieppe, check out 23 François Court.
  • The Hillsborough Halloween House is worth the drive, as is LaFiouk Restaurant in Kouchibouguac.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1

NO SCHOOL for Anglophone East students today!

The community of Three Rivers is hosting a special free skate at the Petitcodiac Arena today, 12:30-2pm. (There’ll be one next Friday, too – when there’s also no school for Anglophone East, and no school Monday, November 11 for Remembrance Day.)

The Green Pig Country Market’s Corn Maze is staying open for the weekend! Entry is $5 each or $20/family.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2 

Celebrate the 3rd annualFestival del Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead Festival) in Salisbury, thanks to Salisbury Arts and Culture Centre & Gaxiola Mexican Restaurant! At 10am there will tours of altars, followed by presentation of the Catrinas & Catrines & sugar skulls, & at noon there’s free sugar skull face painting for all!

Later in the day, join the celebration at the BGC Dieppe gym. Starting at 4:30pm there will be altars, Catrinas & Catrines contest, food, dancing, & more!

The Indo Canada Association of Greater Moncton is holding a Diwali celebration at the Moncton Coliseum today – though the event is sold out.

Amazing Riverview artist Ji Hyang Ryu should finish up her mural at Chattime Moncton today. A great reason to stop in for a treat & see an artist in action!

The Moncton Wildcats are hosting the Foreurs tonight, game time 7pm.

TransAqua is hosting a Pumpkin Parade. Bring your “carved, painted but undamaged” pumpkins to one of their drop off locations before noon today if you’d like your pumpkin to join the parade. Everyone is welcome to visit the site 7-9pm to see pathways lit with pumpkins, enjoy hot chocolate, and take part in some fun activities. The pumpkin will then be taken to Eco360’s composting facility.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3

The 3rd annual Festival del Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead Festival)continues in Salisbury, with award presentations at 4pm, a dance presentation at 5pm, a paint night event (must pre-register; there is a fee for this event) and a showing of COCO at 5:30pm. Admission is free for the celebration, but you might want to indulge in a meal or treats at the restaurant.

There’s a fun run at Mill Creek this afternoon, raising funds to support Levi Sutherland. Registration at noon, event 1-3pm, followed by a silent auction at Five Bridges.

There’s another Maritime Collectibles Market at the Crowne Plaza today, 9:30am-2pm.

🏊‍♀️ The indoor splash pad at the YMCA North End is an amazing option for kiddos – with public openings every day of the week! Check the schedule as times vary day-to-day; cost to attend for non-member is $6.

🏊‍♀️ For indoor swimming, there are public options at the YMCA Greater Moncton (love their small, warmer pool for little ones – Friday public swim 7-8pm, Saturday public swim 6:30-7:45, & Sunday public swim 2-3pm – thanks to the City, Friday & Sunday swims are just $3/person), the Pat Crossman Aquatic Centre in Riverview (Saturday public swims, 2-3:30pm), and the Dieppe Aquatic Centre (with the awesome sloped entry & pirate ship splash zone!).

👧 Hop! Skip! Jump! is perfect for little ones, as well as the cool climbing wall & laser room for older kids.

🎳 Bowling is always a fun idea! Go retro vibes with Marvelous Holy Bowly in Riverview, check out glow bowling times at Fairlanes in Moncton, or head to Bowlarama & its awesome arcade in Dieppe. (We recommend calling ahead to book in advance so you’re not disappointed.)

🎨 Creative mood? Try DIY Studio to paint your own pottery!

🪨 Want to move as a family but need to be indoors? Try a visit to FitRocks Climbing Gym!

🔫 Book laser tag at Marco’s Clinic or the Sportsdome.

🛹 Riverview Indoor Skatepark & Riverview Youth Centre are a great space to learn to skate or practice your skills!

🛹 There’s a borrowing program at YMCA North with skateboards, helmets, and protective gear for use on their great outdoor ramps!

🔐 Up for a challenge? Room Escape Atlantic usually has a few non-scary, kid-friendly options & Mystery Moncton Mystere is great for the teens & up. There are also online options you can purchase to play on your own time, like … Motive for Murder audio game — A great ‘any time of day’ option for the true crime fans who are up for a little hometown sleuthing. 💥 Gamer in the family? The Comic Hunter hosts Friday Night Magic Modern sessions,  Sunday Lorcana Locals & Pokémon sessionsMonday Star Wars Unlimited Weekly Play & lots of other gaming events. Check out their September calendar for details.

🎲 If board games are your family thing, check out the new shop on Moncton’s Main Street, Board Miniatures! The have a standing paint and play tabletop session on Sundays.

🐟 Bass Pro’s 12,000-gallon freshwater aquarium with striped bass, Atlantic sturgeon, trout, perch, and more is always fun to visit, especially when you need an indoor option.

🏫  Resurgo Place is a spot we love to visit again & again; history, hands-on science & arts, & special programming, too!

📚 Local libraries are always a great spot to visit, with lots of programming for all ages – and also another rainy day must visit option.

🤘 BGC Dieppe is always a great place for families to connect.

🎧 There’s a roughly one hour iTour of downtown Moncton’s historical & cultural locations you can use to help you explore – a great way to add a little movement, a little history, and a little fun to your family outings! Be sure to check out all the amazing public art installations around the downtown core, too!

🦙 Llamazing Adventures is a great way to get out & get moving! Take the llamas for a walk!

🐯  The Magnetic Hill Zoo is open five days a week (closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays) in November.

Heads up: when we checked, there were still spots for the next Home Depot Kids DIY session coming up November 30.
