S6E14: Christmas Cocktail Recipes from Sophia & Spritz

Welcome to our annual holiday cocktail special! Since 2019, we’ve been toasting the end of the year with a special show with friends, learning to mix some amazing drinks – always with a mocktail option or two. The perfect way to bring some wow factor to your holiday gathering – whether it’s quietly cuddled by the tree or hosting a group – is to have a fancy new drink to share.

For 2023, we once again found a seat by the bar at Moncton’s Sophia & Spritz, a fantastic venue perfect for a night out with friends, date night, or even to bring the family (ask about their kids’ menu). James Hughes & Sebastien Alary created four more incredible drinks for us to share with you: Sugar Cookie Martini, Tipsy Mountie, Santa Sour, and Blitzen. Read on for the recipes!

Blitzen

A perfect drink to offer guests as they arrive!

Premake these fun ice cubes, then simply pour the bubbles.

For the Cranberry Cubes:
Combine equal parts of sweetened cranberry and pomegranate juices, and pour into large ice cube trays filled with sprigs of rosemary, small orange wedges, and cranberries. Freeze overnight.

Place a large cube in a coupe glass; add Prosecco for a low ABV holiday cocktail to start your evening!

Santa Sour

2 fl oz Pisco
1 fl oz Lemon Juice
.75  fl oz Santa Syrup (see below)
1 Egg White (or use Ms. Better’s Bitters Miraculous Foamer for a vegan option)

This is a great drink to make when you’re looking to impress! It takes a little more work, but the finished result is lovely – both to look at and to drink!

Add all ingredients to a shaker, and add ice. Shake well. Pour over a large ice cube and garnish with a dehydrated orange slice.

James’ Santa Syrup

To make James’ Santa Syrup, gently heat the following ingredients in a small sauce pan, until the sugar is dissolved and the liquid is simmering. Turn off the heat, and let steep for two hours. Strain, and store in the fridge. The syrup can last for up to a month.

200ml Cranberry Juice, sweetened
100ml Pomegranate Juice
100ml Grenadine
250 grams Demerara sugar
6 Cinnamon sticks
6 Star Anise
20 Cloves
1tsp Nutmeg

Tipsy Mountie

A great holiday option for those who like something a bit more traditional but with a twist!

1.5 fl oz Crown Royal
0.5 fl oz Galliano Vanilla
0.25 fl oz / 10ml maple syrup
3 dash orange bitters
2 dash chocolate bitters

You might need to do a little legwork to find orange and chocolate bitters, but it’ll be worth it! (You can always check out www.cocktailemporium.com to order online.)

Add ingredients to a pitcher or shaker and stir for dilution. Pour into a rocks glass, over a large ice cube, and garnish with an orange peel.

Sugar Cookie Martini

2 fl oz Rum Chata
1.5 fl oz Vanilla Vodka
1.5 fl oz Amaretto
1 fl oz Half & Half
1/2 fl oz Simple syrup
Marshmallow Fluff & Christmas sprinkles

Use the marshmallow fluff to coat the inside rim of a martini glass, then coat it with red, white, and green sprinkles. (We LOVE the inside rim; less sticky on the lips!)

Add all the ingredients into a shaker and fill it with ice. Give the drink a hard shake for about 20 seconds, then strain it into the glass and serve.
