It was such a treat to spend Mother’s Day enjoying a preview of the Princess Pampering Mommy & Me sessions available at Nakai Spa. The staff treated my daughter and me to a complimentary mani/pedi and pedicure – and it was easy to see why my Mama Tribe has been raving about this spa for ages! (Full disclosure: that means I’m writing this post in exchange for the treatments we received, but all the observations and opinions are our own honest thoughts.)
Nakai Spa opened in Moncton in 2006; things went so well, a Saint John location opened in 2009. Like a lot of moms, I don’t often find the time or money to treat myself to a spa visit, so this was my first official visit to Nakai. I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last!
The mani/pedi studio in Moncton is fantastic. Four amazingly comfortable chairs set above beautiful whirlpool jet tubs for your feet. So relaxing! And the Aveda products always smell and feel amazing. I think I’m addicted to the peppermint and licorice root tea. Anyone else? (Psst – perfect future Mother’s Day gift item – hint, hint!)
It was so incredible to sit back and watch my daughter take in a brand new experience. Her eyes kept moving from object to object, taking in every detail. She commented on light fixtures, seat textures, and spent what seemed like forever pouring over the colour choices – and when she realized she could pick one for her feet and another for her hands, well, that was just magic. (Funny enough, we both picked the same shade without consulting each other – Do You Sea What I Sea? from OPI’s Fiji collection. Apparently it’s a hot pick this season!)
It’s easy to forget how amazing a new experience can be. As adults, we’re pretty used to our surroundings. Even if we haven’t been to a particular space before, we’ve likely been to something similar. A quick glance is all we give a room and we’ve quickly taken in the different elements and moved on to our next thought. But for a child, it’s all new and amazing and interesting and full of discovery. Watching my daughter start to form her own mental catalogue of experiences and begin forming opinions is incredible. Thanks to Nakai Spa, I’m pretty sure she’ll have a high bar when it comes to customer service, esthetic, and relaxation!
I would certainly recommend the princess pampering at Nakai Spa for a special treat – but why take it from me? Here’s what my five-year-old has to say!
“I like the chairs. They’re funky shaped, with a curve. They [the staff] were very focused on their job. [That’s a compliment; we talk a lot about trying to stay focused on tasks in our house!] It kind of tickled when she did the little massage thingy on my toes.”
I asked if she would do it again and her eyes lit up. “I want another mani/pedi!“
Be sure to like and follow Nakai Spa online so you’ll always know about special promotions – like their upcoming Princess Day! Every few months the spas (both locations) open their doors on a Sunday to treat the littlest clients. Kids can enjoy a mani/pedi combo, with a little touch of lip gloss to polish off the look, for $50; Mom can treat herself to a service, as well (prices as per general).
The next Princess Day is coming up at the end of May, on Sunday the 28th. Spaces are limited, so be sure to call and book in advance (NAKAI Moncton is (506) 852-3772; (506) 642-6772 for Saint John). Lots of little ones will dress up in their princess attire to enjoy the pampering, but it’s not mandatory. And if my five-year-old’s review is any indication, the day is sure to be a huge hit with your little one!
