This one was just so obvious to me watching this show on repeat – and so fun to put together. It’s also the most pinned Pickle Planet post.
Our biggest Pickle started Kindergarten in September 2016. I wasn’t too stressed about it, but a year before that when were talking registration and EYE-DA testing, I needed this.
This commentary bubbled around my head for years before finding a voice here. It’s been rewarding hearing from people who resonate with the message. Slowly, slowly, we’re all working together to improve on this one.
The Friendly Maritimer Myth – And Why It Matters For Parents
I’m often inspired by other parents’ posts on social media, and honoured when these people agree to share a piece of their lives with me and you, the reader.
It’s hard to come up with original crafts, and while I’m sure someone else has also thought of this one, I didn’t Google it, just did it one day – and it remains one of my favourite crafting moments with the kids. Plus it’s so pretty & easy!
You really need to find those silver linings.
All our gifts to each other are homemade in our family. Most are not of the highest quality and will not stand the test of time. This one will.
I honestly have no idea why I have such an abundance of St. Patrick’s Day crafts, but I do. Maybe it’s my way of reliving a career highlight, when I produced a two-hour CBC Radio special called Kiss Me, I’m Canadian, about how we’ve helped change the focus on this date over the last few decades.
There is nothing like live music and no reason children shouldn’t be introduced to it as much as possible.

We LOVE dressing up around here and often have two family-themed Halloween costumes. I’m no seamstress, and our creations aren’t always Pinterest-perfec,t but I love the challenge and take pride in the process.
This was one of the first columns I wrote for the local paper, and one of the first times I really thought about the implications of our son’s diagnosis.
Another early column and one that offered me insight into the responsibility I feel towards the community. I have the opportunity to speak to issues each week in a way that others might not. That is not something I take lightly.
I’m still trying to find my vision of myself these days, so this remains a touchstone post for me.
One of the most pivotal moments in my life – and my sons’ lives, and my husband’s life – is represented by the tiniest of scars. And we are one of the lucky families. I’m thankful always for that.
