Family Literacy Day and Canadian Kid Lit with Chapters Indigo | Pickle Planet Podcast S8E16
Yes, you can keep your elbows up when you’re reading with the kids, too! đ This week on the podcast, Jenna & Tosh chat with Hilary Scroggie Glover (Senior Category Manager, Kids Books at Indigo) and Lindsay Gauthier (Customer Operations Manager, Indigo Kids, Consignment & Events at Chapters Dieppe) about the importance of supporting quality children’s writing and what new Canadian titles you can find in the kids’ section this Family Literacy Day.
Canadian KidLit on the shelves at Chapters Indigo for Family Literacy Day
Whether or not you consider yourself a bibliophile, picking up a children’s book and reading with a little can be a magical time. You create moments of connection, sharing laughs or quiet cuddles. You transport yourself for a few moments into another world, perhaps one created from fantasy or one that’s simply a slice of life shared from another viewpoint. And within the short time it takes to read aloud, you’ve helped boost vocabulary, spark curiosity, and encourage learning with your child.
Each year, Canadians marks Family Literacy Day on January 27, a chance to remind ourselves the power of reading together, whether it’s recipes, road signs, or amazingly well-written and illustrated kids’ books! Hilary and Lindsay joins us to talk about some of the incredible Canadian titles on the children’s book shelves right now, what goes into choosing which books land on the store shelves, and some of our favourite Canadian children’s books to read and share.
