What’s Happening Father’s Day Weekend in Moncton (June 14-16)

Welcome to Highland Games Weekend, everyone!

Thanks to the Greater Moncton Highland Games & Scottish Festival for sponsoring this weekend’s round up. We LOVE the family focus of this annual event, as well as the cultural celebration. Children 10 and under are free to enter; a single adult ticket at the Gate on Saturday is $10, and a family pass is $35. Did you check out our Top 10 reasons to head to the Games? Falcons, archery, axe throwing, chainsaw carving, petting zoo, Highland cows, face painting, bouncy castles, pipe bands, highland dancing, sword fights, some of the best heavy events athletes in the country, and so much more!

Planning to watch Thursday night’s Raptors’ game? The City of Moncton is opening the Avenir Centre to show the game on the big screen. No fee to watch & concessions will be open. You can also catch the game (for free) at Neptune Drive In in Shediac!

East Coast Amusements is set up at the Coliseum through this weekend! You can purchase an all-day ride wristband for $28 (ride coupons are $1.50 each or 25 for $30; most rides are three to five coupons). They’re scheduled to open at 3pm during the week, and at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

At the movies this weekend, Sussex Drive In is showing Avengers: Endgame & Captain Marvel, Neptune Drive In in Shediac is playing Rocketman & Booksmart, and the $2.99 Saturday morning special at Cineplex is E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Wildlife fans might want to make a trip to Amherst this weekend for the Atlantic Wildlife Festival, happening Saturday and Sunday. The Canadian Raptor Conservancy and the Royal Ontario Museum will both have displays, along with local wildlife and outdoor adventure groups. There will be live birds of prey demonstrations and more; admission is $5 with children three and under free.

Butterfly World opens for the season on Saturday, including the driving range! (Ice cream stand opens next weekend.)

Saturday is the annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day & Open House. Stop by for free fun activities from 10am until 1pm!

Father’s Day is Sunday – but Scholar’s Choice is helping you out on Saturday with a free craft session! Children are invited to decorate a wooden desk organizer and make a card for someone special; contact the store to reserve a spot!

You can also stop by Michaels to take advantage of Father’s Day craft sessions; check their site for times and costs.

Fawkes Arts is holding its first kids art class Saturday morning at the Magnetic Hill Lions Community Center. This one-hour class is for ages eight and over and will feature a paint poured piece of art.

Close to the Heart has a kids painting session happening Saturday afternoon; cost is $20/seat, ages five and up.

Bass Pro Shops is holding their Gone Fishing event this weekend, with a catch & release pond, a chance for a Father’s Day photo, seminars, and more!

Toys R Us is holding a LEGO Star Wars make & take event Saturday; limited supplies, you can register online in advance.

June is Pride Month and while Moncton’s annual celebration is later this summer, Amherst is hosting Cumberland County’s 3rd annual Pride Parade on Saturday afternoon.

Camp Wildwood is holding its annual open house on Saturday afternoon. Stop by to enjoy the rock wall, canoes & kayaks, zip lining, swimming, and more, including a free BBQ.

Have you heard about the amazing TedxMoncton youth event happening Saturday?! The young speakers will all talk on the topic of sustainable lifestyles. You can grab your tickets via Eventbrite.

Saturday evening the Moncton Mustangs host the Halifax Harbour Hawks; this is a semi final game and Moncton is one place ahead of the Hawks! Admission is $5 and children 14 and under are free.

Sunday is Father’s Day, which also marks the annual Three Fathers’ Memorial Run. The event begins at 8:30am; there are 5K and 10K distances this year, as well as the traditional 3K.

The Westmorland County Agricultural Fair is hosting a pony pull and a team pull on Sunday, starting at noon.

Is Dad a baseball fan? End the day with a special Fisher Cats game! There’ll be lots of prizes and fun and a great game against the Charlottetown Islanders at Kiwanis Park. Game time 7pm.

SkyZone is offering dads free entry on Sunday and any kids 60-minute kids tickets purchased will be upgraded to an open play pass – good all day! (And don’t forget their fun glow zone times on Friday and Saturday nights!)
