What to Do with the Kids This Weekend (July 20-22)

Welcome back! We took last weekend off to enjoy some family time, but we’re back with an awesome list of ways you can spend time connecting with your family and our community this weekend – with a few bonus ideas for throughout the week, too!

Did you know that Dieppe is showing movies Thursday nights at Place 1604? Bring your own blankets and snacks at dusk and enjoy! This week’s feature is Coco (showing in English), a film our family loved! Next Thursday, enjoy The Greatest Showman (also in English) at Dover Park, then it’s back to Place 1604. You can find the full listing here!

Also on Thursday, the Town of Sackville is hosting a family fun day at Lillas Fawcett Park in the afternoon. It’s a great space to enjoy some time by the water! If you’re in the area on Friday night, the Town shows movies in Bill Johnstone Memorial Park – this week’s feature is the 2017 version of Jumanji.

Thursday is the registration deadline for a fun obstacle course event in Sackville; there’s a kids’ version for ages four to 11, just $5! The race happens Saturday morning.

Mosaiq is back for another year of celebrating all the varied cultures that make our community great. Visit the waterfront Friday and Saturday for amazing music, meals, and more. Lots of fun for the whole family, including a parade Saturday morning!

Also on this weekend is the annual Muddy River roller derby jamboree. Lots of great action to check out!

Looking for lunch plans on Friday? MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor hosts her annual community bbq at Sommet Park (Aberdeen Cultural Centre) from 11am until 2pm.

Parlee Beach is wrapping up Water & Wildlife Week with activities on the beach Friday and Saturday. Next up is Insect Week!

It’s a great weekend for family movies at the drive in – Shediac’s Neptune Drive In is showing Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (G) & The Equalizer 2 (TBA) and Skyscraper (PG) & Overboard (PG). There’s also the Sussex drive in, showing Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (G) & Sicario Day of the Soldado (14A) this weekend.

Saturday is Parks Day at Fort Beausejour National Historic Site, with a 2pm presentation on Fundy shorebirds, free cake, and tree seedlings for everyone. The site is also offering free admission on Sunday (children 17 and under are always free), along with a neat event called Guitar War in the Fort. Listen to Denis Surette, Stephen LeBlanc, and Jock Downs perform – rain or shine!

Lots on the schedule at the Moncton Public Library all summer, including Chinese storytime on Saturday morning, kids’ crafternoon, family movie on Sunday, and lots of fun through the week!

Cineplex extends its Family Favourites movie specials to Wednesday AND Saturdays for the summer. Admission is $2.99 for an 11am showing; this week’s movie is The Greatest Showman.

Smart Saturday’s at Scholar’s Choice are a great chance to check out some of the store’s products hands-on. Noon until 2pm.

Michaels offers a weekly Kids Club craft session on Saturday mornings, plus other workshops throughout the week. Some are free, others require admission.

Maritime Craft Shirts and More in Shediac is offering a Kids Craft Club on Sundays in July; check their Facebook page for details on theme, time and price.

Each weekend until the end of July Bass Pro Shops is holding Family Summer Camp activities on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This includes free games and workshops between noon and 4pm, geared to children ages eight to 12. Try the archery range, BB gun range, casting, and more.

It’s Christmas in July at Magnetic Hill Wharf on Saturday! Enjoy seasonal music and treats, as well as discounts on Christmas ornaments.

SkyZone is opening its new Ultimate Warrior Course this weekend, with specials on Saturday and Sunday. You can book your turn in advance!

On Sundays, Sackville’s Open Sky Co-operative opens its doors. Visit with the miniature donkeys, goats, and hens, walk through the gardens, and even enjoy some treats in the tea room!

Summer Sundays are made for baseball, so why not cheer on Moncton’s FisherCats? 7pm at Kiwanis Park!

Planning ahead: the big fun next weekend is Dieppe’s ImaginAIR Festival, with workshops, circus performances, kite flying, fireworks, and more!
