What to Do With the Kids in Moncton This Weekend (Jan 12-14)

Welcome to another wonderful weekend in the Greater Moncton Area! Wondering what to do with the kids this weekend? Don’t worry – we have LOTS of great ideas! Our weekly round ups include highlights around the city, our Crafts & Activities section has great inspiration, and there’s always our MEGA list of local attractions and ongoing events

Thanks this week to Round Up Sponsor Krista McIntosh of Fairytale Travel. We had a great chat last weekend about traveling to Disney. (If you’re interested in sponsoring a round up, please get in touch!)

Fridays are for Fun on Ice in Dieppe, with skating, live music, and bonfires at the oval behind Place 1604. Festivities begin at 6:30pm (always weather permitting). This week’s scheduled performer is Les Deuces.

Friday night the Town of Riverview is showing The Incredibles on the big screen at the Community Hall (145A Lakeside Drive); doors open at 6, showtime is 6:30pm. Free admission and popcorn; other snacks available for purchase.

Family Favourites returns to Cineplex this weekend; the feature is Spiderman Homecoming. (Did you know there’s also a Stars & Strollers program? It starts up again next week; check it out!)

The second Saturday of the month means it’s time for another KIDS DIY workshop at Home Depot. This is a free, in-store event for ages five to 12.

Cabela’s has lots planned to celebrate ice fishing this weekend, including virtual fishing platform set up where your child can learn the ins and outs of ice fishing – inside!

Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo returns to Moncton this weekend – and this time, they’re bringing a sloth! The Diversity of Living Things is open 10am until 5pm Saturday and Sunday at the Moncton Coliseum. You can also expect to see a hawk, an owl, a vulture, an alligator, snakes, spiders, and more – including a petting zoo! (Count on being there for close to two hours to experience it all.) Check Little Ray’s page for details on pricing – and be sure to read through for details on a special opening for families with children who do not get along as easily as others in crowds.

The Moncton Library is hosting a storytime in Arabic on Saturday morning. You can enjoy songs and a craft, too!

Frozen in Time: The Musical is presented at the Capitol Theatre on Saturday, with shows at 1pm and 4pm.

The Moncton Gospel Hall (Salisbury Road) is hosting a free family Winter Carnival on Saturday, with bouncy castles, sledding, food, and more.

Check out great hockey when the Wildcats host the Halifax Moosehead on Saturday night.

Sunday afternoon the Wildcats host Charlottetown; puck drops at 3pm.

It’s Make Something Sunday at the Owns Art Gallery in Sackville. Kids can bring their parents along to learn how a hand-cranked pasta maker can become a printing press. This is a free, drop-in event.

Did you notice the date? This Sunday is ONE MONTH until Valentine’s Day! Watch for some fantastic local gift ideas coming soon on the site; if your business wants to be included, act now! Spaces are filling up fast. If you’re looking for a simple holiday-themed craft idea to have on hand for a stormy day, check out our colourful Coffee Filter Hearts that we turned into a lovely little banner to decorate for the occasion.

Looking ahead, there’s a fun kids’ paint class scheduled for Riverview Superstore next Sunday, January 21st. Ages seven and up, cost is $25 plus tax. Thanks to the organizers for inviting us – look for more about our experience on the site after the event! The store has lots of great cooking classes scheduled this month, too – including weekday sessions for Little Hands (pizzas, banana snacks, and Mexican inspired), week night classes for Kitchen Kids, and even a Teen Supper Club!

Enjoy your weekend, wherever it takes you!
