Five Fall Family Adventures in New Brunswick

We are so incredibly lucky to live in a province where autumn truly transforms the land around us. Early October is the perfect backdrop for so many adventures, whether it’s updated family photos, a picturesque hike, or just a quiet drive with the babies falling asleep in the backseat. Just in time for fall, we thought we’d share a few of our favourite ideas for exploring the best Southeastern New Brunswick has to offer for autumn family outings.

Horseback Riding at Broadleaf Ranch

What a way to experience the changing leaves and the beautiful weather – on horseback! Make a full weekend getaway and book a night or two in one of the chalets or the amazing glamping units, or plan to take in their annual Thanksgiving Brunch or a Traditional Turkey Dinner at the restaurant; call 506-882-2349 to make your reservation.

Poley Mountain

Snow hills make perfect fall getaways! Ride the Alpine Chair Lift to the top of the mountain to enjoy the view on Saturday of Thanksgiving Day weekend for the annual Fall Festival! They often have wagon rides, BBQ, kids’ activities, music, and more – watch their site for this year’s info!

Route 910

One of my favourite fall drives in New Brunswick! We start turning off Route 112 at Coverdale United Church (dating from 1865), just on the outskirts of Riverview. Follow Route 910 and soon you’ll come to a lovely stretch along the water, then continue on toward Caledonia Mountain. So many fabulous colours all around! Route 910 ends in Hillsborough, a lovely spot to stop and enjoy a treat before continuing home.

Irishtown Nature Park

Within minutes of downtown Moncton you can been in the midst of more than 2,000 acres of forest, walking through all the amazing colours of Irishtown Nature Park. The wide groomed trails are great for strollers or wagons, which is a bonus for taking the little ones out to enjoy the fall air! (Did you know this is technically one of the largest urban parks in the country? Pretty cool! The Dobson Trail in Riverview is also a great urban destination; check out this great post from our friend Laura about her fall hike.)

Hike to Dickson Falls

Honestly, any hike or visit to Fundy or any national park during the fall is a great idea, but we’re told a trip to Dickson Falls is an especially good hike to try with the family, as it’s the park’s most accessible waterfall trail with plenty of Acadian Forest trees strutting their stuff in the fall.

BONUS: Apple Orchards, Pumpkin U-Picks, and Corn Mazes

Check out our round up of local fall favourites: corn mazes (some geared for toddlers!), pumpkin patches, and apple u-picks. Some are open all week, other are weekend-only trips, so there are lots of options for everyone!

We have a few fall craft ideas & other seasonal ideas you can enjoy here.

Looking for more information on why the leaves change colours and which areas of the province are known for different colour variations? Tourism New Brunswick has all the answers and a great ‘leaf-peeping’ map that’s updated weekly with details on where to view the best colours!

We know there are so many other fabulous fall adventures in our province; feel free to share your favourite places to enjoy the season below, and check out these other ideas from our #GrowingUpNB blogging friends!
