17 Things to Do With the Family This Weekend in Moncton (Jan 11-13)

Welcome to the weekend, everyone! How are we surviving the return to routine? Let’s help things along with a jam-packed weekend round up, shall we?

Is taking on new challenges on your resolution list? Why not grab a friend and audition for a role with Hubcity Theatre! General auditions are this weekend; you’re asked to have one contemporary and one Shakespearean monologue prepared. Check out their event for more details!

Fridays are for Fun on Ice; head to the oval at Place 1604 in Dieppe for live music, hot cocoa, bonfires, and skating on the rink! The fun begins at 6:30pm. (The oval is open every day and is a great place to take the little ones during the week; they have skate assists to borrow!)

Want to stay indoors? The Town of Riverview is showing Mama Mia Here We Go Again on the big screen for free.

The Moncton Wildcats host Rouyn-Noranda this Friday at 7pm and the Charlottetown Islanders on Sunday afternoon.

Astronomy Moncton is holding a free public telescope observing event at Moncton High School (weather permitting) on Friday night.

I can’t say enough good things about the amazing free programs offered by Talk With Me. A new session of Communication Begins at Birth starts Saturday at the Moncton Library. This is a free course that helps parents-to-be prepare for nurturing early language skills in their children; be sure to tell anyone you know that’s expecting to call 856-3617 for information. You can also call to find out more about their programs for toddlers and pre-school children, too! You can find details on various winter programs on their Facebook page.

The Homarus Mobile Lab is at Resurgo Place this Saturday morning! This is such a fun add-on to all the museum has to offer; be sure to check it out!

Lewisville Baptist Church is holding a Pancakes and PJs event Saturday morning. This is a free event for preschoolers and their families, but you are asked to register in advance.

Michaels offers kids’ crafts each Saturday; check their site for prices and details.

Home Depot offers a kids’ hands-on workshop the second Saturday of each month.

Cineplex’s Saturday Family Favourites is a special 11am, $2.99 showing of a great film; this week it’s Alpha.

On Saturday afternoon the Memramcook library is showing Paddington in French at 1:30pm and in English at 3pm.

The City of Moncton is making Saturday nights all about skating this winter! Enjoy live music and more at the Ian Fowler Oval outside the Avenir Centre.

Saturdays are a great time to hit the slopes. Poley Mountain offers Saturday Family Night specials from 4pm to 9pm; lift tickets and rentals for two adults and two kids for $120.

Sunday afternoon is also a great time to visit Resurgo Place; this week for Sew Sew Sundays you can bring some flannel or fleece and learn to sew elastic waist pajama pants! This event is geared to ages 14 and up; younger children are welcome with adult accompaniment.

The City of Dieppe offers sleigh rides at Rotary St-Anselme Park on Sundays (weather permitting) from 1pm to 4pm; cost is $2/person (under two years old no charge). Every weekend until March 10!

That’s all for this weekend’s special events; you can check our MEGA LIST with all the links to bowling alleys, skating times, swimming, indoor play ideas, and more if this hasn’t given you enough ideas!

I’m actually enjoying my weekend in Atlanta, Georgia! Did you know I also co-own Grapevine Events, a pop-up consignment sale business? For the second year in a row we’re kicking the year off by meeting with other independent sale owners from across the US to jump start our creative juices and learn from each other. Be sure to watch for big things coming this spring!

Oh, we’ve updated our Winter Carnival round up for this year; all the dates are in place, watch for more details to be added as they’re available. Here are a few other recent posts we think you’d like to read, too!
