Coffee Filter Hearts
I love crafting and decorating for the holidays with the kids – and these Coffee Filter Hearts are perfect for little hands and Valentine’s Day!
They are super simple, totally inexpensive, and you likely have everything you need to make them right now.
Supplies for Coffee Filter Hearts
- Coffee Filters
- Scissors
- Food Colouring (markers can work, too)
- Water
- String (optional, for hanging)
Instructions for Coffee Filter Hearts
Cut coffee filters into heart shapes. (We had a large heart-shaped cookie cutter that I used to make the outline, which is great if you have a youngster that’s ready for scissor skill practice, but free hand drawing works just fine.)
Drop food colouring on the hearts, then drop (or paint) water on top. The water will spread the colouring across the filter. (You can also colour areas with marker and drop water, the effect will be about the same.)
You can have a lot of fun chatting with the kids about the way various shades of colour appear, how the filter absorbs the colour and the water, and there’s no need to stick to just reds and pinks – let them explore with mixing colours, too!
For the best results, hang your hearts in front of a window with lots of light – it really makes the colours pop!
