Top Baby Names in New Brunswick
One of my favourite things to read each year is the list of most popular baby names! Here are some of the top names in New Brunswick over the past few decades; I’d love to know whether your child’s name is on the list & how you picked their name. When we were trying to choose names for our three children, we loved using Baby Name Wizard’s graph that showed a name’s popularity over the past 150 years. It was a great way to try to guess if there would be other kids with that name in their class at school!
Between 2015 & 2020, some of the most popular boys & girls names in New Brunswick were also some of the most common throughout Canada and the United States, including Liam, Noah, Oliver, and William for the boys and Olivia, Emma, and Charlotte for the girls.
Emma has been in the Top 20 Names in New Brunswick since 1996; Olivia first appeared in the top 20 in 1998 and stuck around, too. Liam appears in New Brunswick’s Top 20 in 2005 and is still going strong, like his buddy Noah, who broke into the Top 20 back in 1999.
For a little trip down memory lane, the top five names in New Brunswick in 1980 were Amanda, Melissa, Jennifer, Julie, and Sarah, along with Michael, Christopher, Jason, Matthew, and David. We have more lists from the ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s below!
