Please note: This round up was updated late June 2020. We do our best to update as we can; if you know of a great hard ice cream spot in the Greater Moncton Area that isn’t on the list yet, please reach out and give us the scoop! Also, please be aware of current COVID-19 provincial and federal guidelines and always double-check with our source links for the latest from each establishment.

Did you know that in 1984, U.S. President Ronald Reagan declared July to be National Ice Cream Month, with the third Sunday being National Ice Cream Day? Why not plan an ice cream tour that day! Pack up the family and start exploring one delicious adventure after another. We’ve got the inside scoop on the best places to go for a sweet treat!
MONCTON ICE CREAM SPOTS
King’s Ice Cream (1809 Mountain Road) is a Moncton favourite. The lovely flowers and funky ice cream seats are a great backdrop for capturing family photos. Expect a smile and a few extra chocolate chips with each order – and the portions are huge! They have brought in some amazing social-distancing measures to ensure a safe experience for everyone this summer. We loved our first visit of the season and can’t wait to head back! (For a nearby playground adventure, why not visit Maplehurst Park?)
Benji’s Frozen Treats (1528 Mountain Road) is open noon until 10pm daily. They also feature shaved ice/snow cones, too!
Summer Scoops (272 Elmwood Drive) is a long-standing ice cream spot.
Mighty Scoops (161 Mapleton Road) is a great spot to stop on Mapleton. Hours for Summer 2020: open daily, 12:30-9:30pm.
Frosty’s (100 King Street) is a colourful spot with lots of picnic tables and people-watching opportunities. It is open for the 2020 season & has some really neat flavours on offer. Have you tried a Lavender Lemonade yet?
Murray’s Moose Ice Cream & Fudge at the renovated Magnetic Hill Wharf Village is a lovely spot to spend some time! Opening June 13 for the 2020 season, hours will be 11am – 7pm.
McBuns Bakery has a hard ice cream parlour at its 122 Shediac Road location.
Tropical Chill (233 Main Street, Moncton) is open again for 2020, offering the “only authentic Hawaiian Shaved Ice on the East Coast of Canada,” as well as a selection of hard ice cream, too!
Jeszyka’s Ice Cream & Sugar Shack (1615 Shediac Road) offers a great selection of Chapman’s ice creams and wonderful service.
RIVERVIEW ICE CREAM SPOTS
Need a great cone in Riverview? Check out Philly’s Frozen Treats (1276 Hillsborough Road), just past the Gunningsville Bridge on your way to Fundy (or maybe to Bridgedale Playground or Hawthorne Drive Playground, both with zipline features). This stand is run by a young entrepreneur in his second year of business in 2020!
Another new Riverview option is The Ice Cream Barn (600 Pinewood Road), which had its grand opening June 1, 2020! Might we suggest pairing your trip with a stop by Cover to Cover books? They have a wonderful selection of local & used books, including a great kids’ section!
DIEPPE ICE CREAM SPOTS
For an unparalleled selection of dips and other fun treats, head to Cremerie Bennic Dairy Bar in Dieppe (3225 Principal Street West) or Moncton (1144 Mountain Rd Suite 1). This is a crowd favourite among Pickle Planet followers!
Bar Laitier Amiro Dairy Bar is another reader suggestion for a great treat in Dieppe (1788 Amirault); it looks like a fantastically fun spot with some really neat dishes for 2020! (A great destination before or after time spent at Rotary Park.)
ICE CREAM SPOTS IN SALISBURY, PETITCODIAC, HILLSBOROUGH, SACKVILLE & MORE
The Pickle Planet family’s favourite spot for many years has been Dairy Depot (3161 Main Street), a lovely ice cream spot in Salisbury. Little Tikes slides, child and adult picnic tables, and great deals make this a wonderful family destination. While this spot is generally open seven days a week from mid-May to mid-September, it is not opening for the 2020 season. BUT … as of June 12, 2020, you can find a hard cone treat at McScoops Ice Cream Bar! You’ll find their stand by McTavy’s General Store, near where Fredericton Road and Salisbury Road meet. When you are in the village, be sure to visit Highland Park; wonderful trails, natural and traditional playground equipment, and a splash pad! (And some of the best pizza and fried chicken around, too. Find all the details on our Highland Park profile – did you know it was named one of Canada’s 150 coolest playgrounds?!)
If you’re traveling to Petitcodiac, there’s a great little spot called the Farmer’s Scoop Ice Cream Stand. (We hear it’s opening for 2020, but haven’t confirmed in person yet!)
The Artisan’s Village in Hillsborough (next to a great fenced-in playground and the awesome New Brunswick Railway Museum – perfect for a day trip with the kids!) has a lovely little ice cream stand with picnic tables out front.
When in Shediac, we’re told you must check out Rosie’s Ice Cream (216 Main Street) – and looking at their photos of their vegan options online, we must agree! Open 1-9pm for 2020.
On the go in Sackville and need a treat? Visit The Ice Cream Coop, easy to find on Main Street – near the fabulous Bill Johnstone park, with great playground equipment and a fun splash pad with a giant frog face. You might also want to plan a trip to nearby Lillas Fawcett Park & Silver Lake; a true gem of a spot!
Trueman’s Blueberry Farm outside Sackville makes incredible ice cream on site; watch their page for specials and you might even score a free cone! They are offering online ordering for 2020 and are a great little day trip adventure from the Greater Moncton Area.
